Hello. I'm James.
I'm a trained journalist and published writer turned photographer (and Higher Education professional by day). I'm based in Northampton, UK, and work across London and the Midlands.
I shoot music, the arts, performances on stage and off and events of all types. I specialise in creating effective reportage, working to capture decisive moments with a clear-eyed focus and understanding of the subject, setting and context.
I'm especially proud to be a trusted contributor to the learning and participation work of organisations like Wigmore Hall and Spitalfields Music, discreetly documenting the essence and joy of important community-based projects conducted through school and pre-school programmes, with neurodiverse young adults, people with dementia and other groups.
My photography has been published nationally and internationally by publications including Rolling Stone, NME, The Guardian, The Observer, The Independent, The Financial Times, The Evening Standard, Q Magazine and Wall Street Journal. My live music work is represented by Avalon.red (previously the Retna and London Features International collections).
I have covered events or acted as official photographer for a range of clients including Alexandra Palace, Wigmore Hall, Spitalfields Music, Soundcastle, Shoreditch Town Hall, City of London Sinfonia, Mahogany Opera Group, Greenwich & Docklands International Festival, Battle of Ideas Festival, Stroke Association, the City of London, Construction Manager of the Year Awards, i-Graduate and the University of London.
